Amanda Chastain

Systems engineer

I work on problems that don't sit inside one system, one discipline, or one organization. Fourteen years in aerospace and defense, ten of them at Boeing — systems architecture, requirements, verification, and integration.

Now

Systems Engineering Modernization Technical Lead at System Innovation, supporting the Department of War.

I find the engineering problems that cut across programs, work out what's driving them, and write the technical guidance that addresses them. I also lead two university research efforts on the government side.

  • Lockheed Martin2021
  • The Boeing Company2013–2024

How I work

Model-based, because at this scale nothing else holds together — SysML, UAF, DoDAF, Cameo, DOORS. Simulation and software when the model has to run: AFSIM, Python, C++, MATLAB.

The method follows the problem, not the other way around.

Patent

US 10,214,301 — Automated Control System for Manufacturing Aircraft

Granted 2019, from work modeling a commercial aircraft production system as a network of dependencies so it could be analyzed whole.
